OSEC — Open Security Evaluation Criteria
In August 2002, Neohapsis launched the Open Security Evaluation Criteria (OSEC), a product testing initiative designed to protect IT consumers. Prior to OSEC, consumers had been forced to perform product-testing independent of open security standards, or worse, rely on marketing literature for guidance.
The principal mission of OSEC is to validate vendors' claims, and to place increasing pressure to ensure product integrity throughout the development cycle. OSEC ultimately provides a forum in which security-conscious vendors can differentiate themselves in the marketplace.
